CoBRA: The Jungle Warriors - Navigating Maoist Insurgency with Courage and Precision
The Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) is a specialized force established to undertake operations of guerrilla and jungle warfare, specifically tailored for addressing the Maoist insurgency, earning them the moniker of 'jungle warriors.' CoBRA personnel are meticulously chosen from the CRPF, as CoBRA operates as an integral part of the CRPF framework. The pillars of CoBRA's identity encompass Courage, Zeal, and Patriotism. Before their assignment to CoBRA Battalions for anti-naxal operations, these individuals undergo intensive training in both commando tactics and jungle warfare.
A total of 10 CoBRA Units were raised between 2008 and 2011. Following comprehensive training, all 10 Battalions were deployed across regions affected by Left Wing Extremism (LWE) and insurgency, spanning states such as Chattisgarh, Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya. CoBRA emerges as one of the nation's premier Central Armed Police units, adeptly trained to not only survive and persevere in the challenging jungle environment but also to emerge victorious. Its distinction as the foremost CAP unit in the country remains unquestionable.
The CoBRA Sector started functioning at Dte. Genl., CRPF, CGO Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi under the Command of Shri K. Durga Prasad,IPS, IG, CoBRA Sector. Later, in March 2009, the Sector HQ shifted to Pushp Vihar, New Delhi and since 11/11/2009 it has been functioning at Old Secretariat, Civil Lines Delhi-54. Presently CoBRA is being commanded by Sh Rajesh Khurana,IPS,IG
CoBRA was awarded 18 Shaurya Chakra, 05 Kirti Chakra, 02 PPMG, 344 PMG, 243 parakram padak, 6 jeevan raksha padak, 13027 antarik suraksha padak and 4165 DG Commendation disc and 73 personnel & 07 K9 were martyred during operations.
Total 33553 Operations were launched since 2009 in which 362 Naxal/Insurgent were killed, 3119 apprehended, 966 Surrendered, 1483 Various types of arms, 54877 different types of ammunitions, , 8476 Bombs/IED/Grenades , 82495 Detonators were recovered from Naxals and Insurgents.
A total of 33553 operations have been launched since 2009, resulting in the elimination of 362 Naxal/Insurgent individuals, the apprehension of 3119 suspects, and the surrender of 966 others. Moreover, 73 personnel sacrificed their lives during these operations.
Additionally, law enforcement has confiscated 1483 assorted arms, 54877 different types of ammunition, 8476 Bombs/IED/Grenades, and 82495 Detonators from Naxals and Insurgents.
