Welcome to Official Website of Central Reserve Police Force

History

The 1st Battalion of Crown Representative's Police was raised on 27/07/1939 at Neemuch with four services and one Hqr Company. To facilitate communication, the Ajmer state provided operators and wireless equipment on loan. Platoon no. 16 of Hqr Coy 1st Bn CRPF, with 51 personnel, was used as the wireless platoon.

After independence, the force was renamed the Central Reserve Police Force and grew rapidly. By 1957-58, there were seven CRPF battalions all over India. A post of Police Radio Officer (PRO) was sanctioned at Neemuch in 1957 to supervise communication matters. Shri Karam Singh, Dy S.P. of erstwhile Ajmer state, was appointed the first Police Radio Officer of CRPF.

Executive battalions and their detachments used to communicate directly with their DIG Headquarters and Bn Headquarters respectively. The communication system was based on vintage radio sets from World War II.

Subsequently, Bharat Electronics Ltd. started supplying new generation radio equipment to CRPF, such as RX RA-538, SAFI, RFT, WS-62, and HM-30 radio sets. Later, GE-524, TX-RX-100W, LHP-219, and LHP-228 sets were supplied in the HF range, and GH-650, GV-650, GH-750, and GV-750 sets in the VHF range. For the first time during 1969-70, High Power radio sets of 400 watts (Siemens) were procured from BEL, and RTTY communication of long range throughout India was introduced.
